2016 was an exciting year and we have had the pleasure of working with a lot of great customers. As we were reminiscing, we thought we’d share with you some of the most memorable below.

Ok, this might be a bit biased – but we were so happy with our office refurbishment that we just had to include it on the list! We can endlessly talk about how great internal living walls are for an office environment – so of course we planted a new external vertical garden on one end of the building, included some moss art for the reception area and a living wall in the meeting room to make sure staff and visitors are comfortable.

Another office refurbishment, but this time for the UK Green Building Council, this was a project close to our hearts. Aiming to inspire best practice and influence government and policy, we share a similar vision to UKGBC and were honoured to provide a living wall for their staff to enjoy at their London offices. You may have spotted it on the Guardian’s website!

Working with Zoopla Property Group on their new offices was an exciting project.  We provided a living wall to enhance the entrance area and purify the air providing a sense of well-being for both staff and visitors.

One of the most astounding memories of this year is the vision of Sir David Attenborough abseiling a 50ft living wall at the University of Cambridge! Always a real advocate of the natural world, we found his recent episode of Planet Earth II very insightful.

We’ve worked with Crystal on a couple of other projects in the past, but this year we helped the team achieve an industry first – using Viritopia Grufekit as a base for its garden roof terrace, Crystal Mozart is the first to host this type of greenery on a cruise ship!

One of our living walls was used for a residential client who wanted to bring their garden close to their home. A lovely touch was the use of a wooden doorway in the middle of the wall, surrounded by a colourful range of plant species.

As part of air quality improvement works funded by TfL (Transport for London), Viritopia Living Walls were installed along the face of Asda, part of ‘The Mall’ shopping centre in Walthamstow. We’d love to see more government initiatives like this recognising the value of greenery in improving air quality and combatting pollution.

We planned a bio-diverse structure specifically to attract wildlife onto the tops of the luxury lodges at Tinwood Estate winery. With the estate just down the road from the Viritopia offices, we have the luxury of being able to pop by and see for ourselves how Art and Jody, the owners of the estate, are enjoying their green roofs!

This residential project included our six meter high living wall in the basement.  With additional lighting it makes a stunning feature and makes this exquisite property stand out.

Last on the list but certainly not the least, the Button Factory is a bar in Birmingham, which serves an Italian menu. One of our living walls was installed against the exposed brick wall to bring the outside in and complement the wining and dining experience.

Enhancing public areas can reduce vandalism including graffiti. Can have a further positive impact a living wall has both on physical health and mental wellbeing.

  • Seasonal variations in colour, growth, flowers & perfume
  • Provide security as a dense & natural barrier
  • Relieves everyday pressures of crowding & noise
Our living wall installed in Trafalgar Square for nine months did not suffer any vandalism despite being one of the busiest locations in the city.
This permanent living wall installation at Birmingham New Street station sees very high footfall and provides a healthy backdrop for travellers.
